In 2004 we played host to over 200 guests at the villa itself, and a further 240 at the Porta Nova apartments. That’s more than 600 weeks of enjoyable holidays. Almost a quarter of these had stayed with us before, some were coming back for the second or third time in the year, and quite a few had been recommended by previous tenants.
A frequent comment in e-mails and visitors’ books has been ‘We hope to return to Villa Cooper’. This makes us feel we are on the right track. Our guests ranged from a three-month old baby to an intrepid granny in her late 80’s, both of whom enjoyed themselves, while even initially surly teenagers seemed to chill out quickly.
2001 also saw the completion of the Town House in late June, overdue and way over budget. Despite this late start, about 120 people checked in, and some of them had also stayed here before. It was particularly satisfying to hear their comments on the changes we have made, bringing to new life a house that has been lived in for at least 150 years, and built on a site first occupied by the Romans over 2,000 years ago.
The Town House is unlike the other Villa Cooper properties, being a small private hotel or guest-house, but with one or two important differences. On the vast roof terrace there is a large BBQ and a well-equipped kitchen for guests’ use.
Then there’s the pergola, providing exotic colours, scents and natural shade; and the roof garden, replete with mature trees: olive, pomegranate, orange, windmill palm, as well as typical Mediterranean flowers and shrubs. A neighbour has dubbed this the third botanical garden of Blanes!
The concept of an ‘aparthotel’, self-catering accommodation adjacent to a central complex providing hotel and restaurant facilities, began in Mallorca some 25 years ago. Now we have come up with the ‘Hotel Apart’. Guests can enjoy meals and refreshments they have prepared themselves (at a fraction of hotel prices), sunbathe, shower, enjoy the views, and all this within 100 yards of a five-star beach, shops, markets, bars, cafes, public transport…
On the floors below are eight beautiful en suite guest rooms, and on the ground floor is a sitting room for guests , with another fridge and satellite TV. Yet our room rates are less than what unmodernized local pensions charge. And, unlike them, we stay open all the year round.
With the ten properties we now own and manage in Blanes we can host almost any size of party. Apart from Villa Cooper itself, sleeping up to 16 persons, we offer studios and three-bedroom apartments in the heart of old Blanes, yet in relatively quiet locations, while the Town House is proving popular not only with families on holiday, who particularly love the spacious family suites, but with singles or couples who only want to stay for a few nights and be close to Barcelona.
So what’s in it for you? Whatever you want! Whether on business or pleasure, you are guaranteed a warm welcome from the whole team, from your initial enquiry and throughout your stay.
